The dilemmas in this sparkling, sharply scripted 1940 film of mystery, comedy and romance were reworked into You’ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The great Ernst Lubitsch directed James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan through the very modern contradictions of personal correspondence and misunderstood relationships.
The pre-screening talk will focus on history found ‘just around the corner’, in Deal and Walmer.
